To the wanna be "do I have it?" models
bvzxa3 bvzxa3 is offline 10-06-2007 Rating:

Please, use a decent camera. Cell Phone pictures are ghetto.

You wanna get yourself out there. Save the money going to a studio, and buy a digital camera at least 6 Megapixels or higher with at least 3x Optical Zoom.

Your myspace and facebook cellphone pics won't work.

Soemthing to think about, that is, if you wanna stand out from the crowd.

I think that technology plays a hand in this oversaturation as it is soooo easy to enter almost any field (the art of djing suffers from this, also...anyone with 2 cd players and some speakers tries to all themself a dj ) if you have the money. When things come too easily and little effort is required, appreciation and "heart" tend to be low or non-existent, which leads to overall poor work eithics, quality and creavity.

I hope the rebuild phase comes sooner than later... these myspace and 'urban glamour' chix make it really hard for ethnic models to do commercial and lifestyle work...

I think it will become worse before it will get better. People will eventually learn that you can't beat a dead horse. Just think about all the magazines, websites, flyers, mixtapes, model searches in clubs, etc. emerged.

Every club night has a model search, people now dont even care anymore.

Mixtapes use to be powerful but then with itunes people figure I just download some songs, put them together, make a mixtape hire a graphic designer for a cover and bam I am a mixtape dj. Mixtapes went from $10 to $2.00. Then people cried about the legal issue, well if mixtapes are done the way they should they help the music business more than hurt them. It is all these new comers that killed it because they look to make a quick buck and instant fame.

Good example is DJ Smallz, he is a Pro Tools DJ, he can't mix or blend, he is one example what happened to the game. Nobody knew who he was for about 2 years because he was too afraid to put himself out there because of 1 the legality issue and 2 because how he put the cd's together. He would rename songs so that people thought that he had new versions of songs, he would take clips of interviews and label them hosted by:_______________ everything he did was against the rules of the game. He inspired all these other wanna be's. People don't like quality if they did they wouldn't buy bootleg.

A TRUE PRO, will not shy away from investing in his career, a real photgrapher will not shy away from purchasing the expensive camera to advance his trade. Any professional will invest in advancement. One thing I have learned that major business will look at several small things to determine your legitamacy. Your email address: if you use a @yahoo, gmail, hotmail or any of the free services it will mark you, no website and giving them a myspace. They look at it at the you want them to spend several thousands of dollars but you don't even have the bare necessities to be a professional. There are so many little things that make or break a deal. A company rather deal with someone that has their ish together. You ever wonder what the difference is between your local coffee shop or Starbucks?

I've been saying the same thing for years. Nowadays, it's anyone with a laptop or an ipod that call themselves DJ's. The so-called "beat the box" mentality, i.e., as long as you play a lot of hit tunes, mixing skills are secondary. Software that helps a cd/mp3/laptop dj beatmatch (one of the most pathetic things ever made for a DJ). Put some of these "dj's" on some turntables with real vinyl (not Serato) and they'll curl up like a salty snail.

So true! When companies approach me, their email address and website are the first things I look at. It's amazing just how much that can tell you about a business.

A lot of people DON'T understand this! Their excuse that they don't have the money, but they I look at it. If you have money for sneakers, drinks at the clubs, dinner at restaurants. You HAVE money for this, if you can't sacrifice for something as minor but important as your own website. I am sorry you do not need to be in business.

Are you expecting to get paid top dollar or are you doing it for a hobby?? If you expect me to have to invest in you but you can't even invest in your ownself. You don't think that is a problem. If you agree with me or not this is the way business is done. I know a lot of people that can't land big accounts due to their I can't afford a website, business cards, etc. I seen executives laugh at some people when they come in with their FREE printed business cards by Vista Print that has on the back their Tag line "Get Free Business Cards like this at Vista Print".

Would you let a doctor operate on you with a pearing knife because he says he can't afford real tools?
