Playboy was banned overseas? where? If you are talking middle eastern countries with muslim roots maybe. But countries like Germany, France, Italy, Spain, etc. where nudity is allowed in commercials and regular programming unlike in the states.
Urban Modeling meaning women mainly of ethnic decent, yes that mainly includes big booty chicks that are too short to do any runway. I don't see any mags that feature only Asian chicks. They are usually placed in with the black magazine with is Smooth, King, Black Mens, etc.
Its all how you measure the success of a magazine. If I only choose to sell 5000 magazines and I am good with that and the money I make allows me to do what I need it to do then its good. But when you are needing to sell a million to cover overhead, target demographics, etc and you don't than you are having a problem. Just like anything in the business. Supply and Demand. I don't see Show distributed nearly as King or Smooth. Matter of fact it is not even that easily available, Ozone is more accessible than Show.
Anyway, if you only looking to target 10,000 people than you met your goal that is a lot easier than having to reach a much higher target audience. BUt if you want corporate sponsorship, you have to a have a solid followership, distribution and you have to have to proof to back it up not just say you do, thats why ABC is important because they actually audit your circulation so that you don't lie. like so many magazines do out here.
IF you do not look to get advertisers than fine. But I would assume if you are in "business" no matter what it is, you are looking to make money from whatever you are selling. It is a numbers game, if you can't proof the numbers than you won't get support by the major players because that's the bottomline.
Now if Show will be around in 2 years time will only tell, however just how the market has been going I can't see it unless they just no looking to be on a large scale. I don't think you can compare Show with Maxim, FHM, Stuff or any of those magazines. Content is the key, if I want to look at the chicks, I can do it at the store it doesn't prompt me to buy it, but if you have an article on how to invest money wisely, or how to make my car more fuel efficient, or even if you have editorials about someone's career, life or whatever. I maybe tempted to purchase the magazine.
The women are simply curiosity sparkers but once you look at the pic for more than a minute the thrill is gone and you already seen it.
