Darkness Falls

Most of the board regulars from "back in the day" remember a vampire-themed story I did featuring members of the board. I never got to finish it because the computer I had back then crashed and I lost the work. So now, years later I want to make up for it. This is the new, revamped version of Dark Corner. (Are you happy Soul, now I'm posting it)

Below is the outline of the story for those not familiar with it. This is for you all to get to know the characters in the story and what their roles are and what it's about.

Character Synopsis

The Neteru and her team of Guardian protectors are a non-biological family of unlikely heroes that have come together for a common cause-to thwart evil, specifically, vampiric evil. Each has lived their own private horror, which has razor-honed their special gifts and thrust them into this strange clan of vampire hunters.

The Neteru:

Sha is the vampire huntress. She, like her guardian brothers and sisters, possesses special gifts. Unlike them, she is Omnivoyant which means she possesses all six area of extrasensory perception plus a seventh that is only held by one of her rank as a Neteru.


The Guardians:

Kenya is the seer of the group. She possesses the gift of Second Sight. The resident healer and den mother of the group.

Ram is a Tactical. He feels the unseen. He is the father figure for the Guardian team.

Chuck has the gift of audio sensory. He can hear what the spirits whisper.

Dauntae is the nose of the group. Olfactory senses. He can smell trouble brewing, especially demonic trouble.

Drew possesses the gifts of olfactory and taste and is an expert tracker. He is also Dauntae’s right hand.

Shawn is a Tactical and Ram’s right hand man. The wizard of the group and weapons specialist.

Jay is a Tactical as well. He is the newest member of the Guardian team and a reluctant one.

Leah, though not a Guardian, is the Neteru’s rock. She’s the one that Sha will go to when she need to chill out from her “night job”. Leah keeps her sane.



The Vampires:

Chris is a vampire on edge, caught in the perilous unseen gap between both worlds. He is a master strategist. The way he plays with people is like a chess game....he studies them...studies their moves...and thinks over his own moves before delivering a deadly blow.

Sanchez is evil incarnate, a Master vampire who comes from a long line of predators. Descended from Dracula, beware of his seductive talents. His allure is beyond mortal. He is the deadly type...in your face deadly...he will not hesitate to suck the blood out of you and kill you. Yet he finds an almost childlike humor in baiting his prey before he destroys them. Yes, he will play with your head before he takes it off.

Krystal is the daughter of Kenya. She was turned by Sanchez in his pursuit of the Neteru. She now serves at Sanchez’s right hand and has a deep hatred for her mother and the Neteru.

Both Chris and Krystal are second level vampires. Second levels are some of the strongest vampires around. They are beholden only to the Master vampires that made them. It’s a cycle. Masters beget Second Levels, Second Levels beget Thirds…and as the levels diminish, so does power. Once you get beyond Third Levels, you can’t even bare fangs.

This story is about the never-ending struggle between good and evil. Love plays a major factor in it: The love of humanity, love of family, and loving the world enough to have a commitment to something greater than oneself, and of course this is about the love between one man and one woman. This Guardian team has been ordained by the Light to defend a world shadowed by darkness.

What ever made you think that this was a ''new members vs old members'" kind of thing? This is just a continuation of the a story I was working on a long time ago...before you were even thought of on here.

But if you want to get eaten...I'm open to more ideas.

Chapter 2


Sha walked into the club. It was packed wall to wall with people, some human, some vampire. She walked, her stride confident, through the throngs of people. The music filed up her ears, beat inside of her, mingling with the rage that had been her companion for the past three weeks. At the bar, she grabbed a stool and sat down. F*ck what Kenya and the rest of the brothers had said about her venturing out alone at night, she was ready to hunt down those who did her boy. She looked around and made eye contact with a tall, dark stranger across the room. Bingo. Her internal radar told her this one was a vamp. He was fine too. A pity. She’d have to dust his a*s but at least some mother’s child would go home safely that night. It didn’t take him long to make his way over to her, trailed by at least four other homeboys---all vamp.

“What brings you out to a place like this, sexy chocolate?”

Sha wanted to roll her eyes at the vamp’s pick up line. He could have done better than that.

“Got bored at home so I came out looking for a little action.” she baited him.

The vamp smiled, showing his almost too white teeth. He had some nerve flashing fang in front of her, knowing what and who she was. Was he mad?

“So you came out looking for something different, huh? Something unusual?” he asked. His homeboys standing behind him were listening intently for her reply.

“Something like that. It hasn’t been the same since Santiago…” She let the truth dangle out, baiting the vamp and his boys even further.

“Sorry to hear about your boy Chris and all. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and got jacked, but business is business. It was an investment. He was headed that way sooner or later. Enough about that though, since he’s not here I can pick up the slack.”

“Can you?” Sha raised her eyebrows.

“Look who you’re talking to, baby. You wanna get out of here?” he asked the question that Sha knew had been imminent from the moment he came up to her.

“Yeah,” she rose up from her seat. “And bring your friends. Been a while since I had it like that.”

He hesitated, stared at her, then collected himself and chuckled. “That’s five of us you know.”

Sha smiled. “And?” She didn’t even wait for his response as she strode off through the crowd toward the back section of the club. The five vamps followed closely behind her. They were eager. That meant they were sloppy. She led them outside to the back alleyway and leaned against a wall ready to get it on.

“You have any preference about which one us goes first?” the lead vamp asked.

“No, do you?” She bent over, giving them all an ample view of her ass in the jeans she wore, reaching for the dagger she had concealed near her ankle.

“D*mn,” one of the homeboys whispered. “I don’t care when I go as long as I’m included.”

“Good,” Sha said. “I’m not choosy about which one of you goes first either.” In one swift move, she snatched up her dagger, spun, and plunged it into the chest of the vamp who said he didn’t care when he went. He went first. His skin turned to ash and crumbled away to red, glowing bones, which then disintegrated.

“Oh, sh*t!” the lead vamp yelled.

Sha moved quickly, not giving them time to get into battle stance. The one who came up behind her was the first to strike. Foolish. He met his end with a dagger to the heart. Two down, three to go. She sensed one of them go airborne. She threw her dagger at him and it hit him in the chest. Ash rained down on her as she reached up in the air and caught her weapon as it landed in her hand. She trained her eyes and her dagger on the last two vamps left, waiting for them to attack. They glanced at each other then stared at her.

“Later, b*tch.” one of them said and then they were gone.

“D*mn! A girl can’t even get a good ass-whipping out here!” she yelled into the darkness where the vamps had vanished. “Ya’ll some punk b*tches for running out on me like that.”


After that disappointing battle, Sha needed to go somewhere to chill out. She returned to her vehicle and drove back to her old neighborhood of Inglewood to visit her friend , Leah. Leah had been her best friend since they were little. They remained close even though Sha had moved out of Inglewood years ago. She rang the doorbell to Leah’s apartment, hoping that she’d be home.
“Sha!”

Sha didn’t even see Leah’s face before the door swung open and she was grabbed into a hug.

“Leah!”

They embraced before Leah stepped back and ushered her into the tiny apartment she called home. Sha went and sat in the living room while Leah got out a bag of chips, two glasses, and a bottle of grape-cranberry juice. That had been their pick-me-up food whenever they got together.

“So tell me everything that has happened since we last spoke.” Leah said as she set the drink filled glasses down in front of them and opened and poured the bag of chips into a big bowl.

“The usual. Been out on the hunt, staking motherf*ckers. I went out to some club tonight and five vamps tried to push up on me. Had to dust a few of their a*ses, but two of them ran out on me. Wouldn’t even give me a good fight. What type of bullsh*t is that?” Sha was still steamed about the incident from earlier.

“Girl, they didn’t want to die. Simple as that. They saw how you did their boys and bounced. That was smart of them.” Leah smiled. She didn’t know how her girl could spend all the days of her youth out vampire hunting but Sha had explained to her that it had been her duty long before she was born. Leah just prayed her girl was safe out there among all the creatures of the night.

“I guess. I probably shouldn’t be worried about that anyway. I have bigger fish to fry. Like Sanchez and Chris.”

Leah watched something reflect in her girl’s eyes. Pain? Had to be. They all knew what happened to Chris. They had all grown up around the way. Chris was older than Sha but had been her first love. The guardian family had torn them apart when Chris started going down the wrong path.

“It’s a shame he had to die like that. But I’ve always wondered about the time when you was living with him after running away from foster care. I thought he took you in ‘cuz…..and you never told me…” Leah started.

“No, in all that time he never touched me. Probably didn’t even know I had liked him. I think it was the age difference that kept him back. I was young, you know.”

“So, you’re still a…”

“Virgin? Yes.” She wasn’t afraid to admit it. There was nothing wrong with saving yourself.

“That sucks. I mean you being a virgin doesn’t suck but never getting to sleep with him before he died, that sucks. I know for a fact he was eying you, probably even liked you. I don’t think age had anything to do with it. It was his lifestyle…the drugs and all. He was a drug lord and wanted to keep you away from that but at the same time he kept you near because he wanted you safe. Probably figured the safest place for you was with him, in his house.”

“Maybe.”

“I can’t help but think about how it would have been if the two of you had gotten together before the guardians took you away. You probably would have had his baby by now. That might have changed him.”

“Girl, having a baby doesn’t change a man, nor does it keep him with you. I could have had five of his kids and he would’ve still been dealing. It’s nothing though. That’s the past and Chris Santiago is dead. Made a deal with the devil and I’m sure he’s paying for it. If not, he will soon."

Hum...I don't know why I was waiting on Leah to turn into a vampire...this story got my nerves all bad...LMAO...it's like watching a flix exspecting everybody to be something their not...

Beautiful writing.. We got to get you up on a few authors who write martial art style.. Let you check out how to describe battle sequences in exquisite detail. That’s about the only thing I noticed that would enhance that chapter.
