"The truth is a powerful thing"

The truth is a powerful thing
Many people can’t take it when it condemns their actions
They can point out other people’s faults though
And do it with extreme satisfaction

We love mirrors for embellishment
But hate using them for self-scrutiny
Improper pride is devastating
It can lead to people hearing a eulogy
About how great of a person we used to be
And how unfortunate it is
That we’re no longer around to show love
This could’ve been prevented
If we listened to the counsel
Of people who are our own flesh and blood

Sometimes it doesn’t come from family
Instead it’s from people God puts in our lives
He always sends the right people to us
It’s up to us to recognize who those persons are

It takes courage to confront the truth within ourselves
I can’t stand the cynical question: “What is truth?”
It is the opposite of a lie
And not obvious to those whose vision is aloof

People don’t want to see it
When they refuse to change their thinking or lifestyle
Many feel that there is no one set definition
Of what is upright, chaste, or foul

Such is for our Creator to decide anyway
Many people will argue
That we humans don’t have a Maker
I’m not writing to debate that issue with anyone
You have your belief and I have mine

I don’t have all of the answers
But I’m humble enough
To admit when I’m wrong when it’s obvious

No human is above counsel
We all make mistakes
And therefore are in need of correction from time to time
