how exactly do you make money in modeling

i see a lot of ethnic model websites and youtube videos and i wanted to know exactly how you guys make money.

i am friends with a lot of beautiful women with real nice shapes. I know they would be willing to pose for pictures and get exposure. But once do that and put there pics on the net how would i get paid ?

ummm.. how would YOU get paid, or how would THEY get paid?
What kind of modeling are they trying to get into, or are you trying to get them into?
When you say put their pics on the net, do you mean just posting them on a site like here, or putting them on a "modeling site" (i.e. a place to put your portfolio like omp, mm, etc.) ?

I think there is a serious missunderstanding here, the reason why i didn't talk about the models getting paid because i thought it was automatic and the models got paid upfront.

thats the point, i don't know where to start. It factor is a good example of what i would eventually want to do.

i make money by promotions alot of models get in these mags and thats it, u have to use the magazines as a promotional tool for posters, calendars, dvds, and mags lead to videos which are paid, videos can lead to movies and movies can lead to tv appreances and more, it a whole lot more out there in the urban modeling market than people think, you con do promotional work for major companies, radio, conventions, fashion shows, its cool, you just have to have the right marketing skills.

I make mine through:

• Finders fees for castings. (models and actors).
• Booking Christian Comedians and clean road comics. If shows aren't TV ready I won't allow them. Plus cursing/sex jokes show a lack of skill.
• Ads on my site (Talent isn't charged anything).
• Planning events and bringing industry professionals together.
• Numerous technology retainers I keep. (which are so stable I haven't had a call yet this year).

Models could probably make money by:

• Sending in more beauty, fashion, profile (headshots), and commercial images. Biggest complaint I recieve is about the client getting swimsuit images instead of imagery related to what the casting is for. For the bigger jobs they want to see an artist, Not an object. And models in those images are judged by the phographer, sytilist, MUA, and designers they worked with. So be mindful of that and don't send in glamour images to a beauty casting or commercial casting.

• Member pay sites seem cool but won't make a model much money unless they have thousands of strong images. Or unless that "model" already has a name as entertainer.

• If you create a name for yourself beware you might not get mainstream work with the companies that pay the highest rates. So be prepared to hustle if you go that route. The "biggies" make you sign morality clauses in their contracts. If you have a name they won't give you a shot at the assignment. By this I mean a "name" as an Urban model.

• Travel and shoot in different metro areas and climates. Doesn't sound like much but it will teach you how to appeal to different markets. Every section of this country likes different things if you can be artistic in a way that appeals to them you'lre sure to pick up agencies that see you as widely commercial and highly marketable here and overseas.

• Get real management. Someone that looks out for your best interests or reputation is enough. Make sure they know the vocabulary you don't. Ask them questions...being buisness savy in one area doesn't qualify them for others. It isn't neccessary for them to have great "connects". If you are artistic in composition and markertable then the right people will take notice and steer the both of you their way.

• Appying to agencies in the beggining is cool to get an idea of where you need to be in order for them to sell you to a client. Then take a hiatus, build your port, and go back.

• Learn the vocabulary. Surprised that people don't understand the differrence between exclusive, non-exclusive, limited exclusivity, and a "mother agency" (you can bet Music Pro doesn't). At least have that basic knowledge.

The real money is going to come from agencies and direct booking by marketing firms in the longterm.

If you want quick money, parties and music videos are the only way. But then you'll be an entertainer and your done in 2-3 years tops. (unless some part of your body is freakishly noticeable). And nothing quick is ever good...

If your just starting and serious it'll probably take up to a year before things really start happening. And even then it will be slow so prepare for that. Maybe Two years before it could be a everyday career (thats if you are building your port without any other finnacial resources behind it). But then you'll be working less (really as much as you want too) and for high pay assignments.
