Re: Farrakhan

I am proud of her. How can diss a person based on their grandfather?? That is dumb as heck!!
Believe the unbelievable and surround yourself with those who can respect and supprt your beliefs. By doing this, you can truly attain the unattainable and reach the unreachable. Leave the haters at the door!!

Re: Farrakhan

ironic a white man tells his white son, not to hang around a black chick cause her grand dad is racist..

you know how many white chicks i hung around with racist moms, dads, brothers, sisters, uncles and grand dads? in the 70's -80's that was just how it was, and sometime til this day.

Re: Farrakhan

Its not a name I respect.

Orthodox Muslim's don't recognize the Nation of Islam at all and I've seen very predjudice/racist propoganda in Final Call and in inpromtu sermons given on the street.

I've got other comments but time doesn't fade my perception. Propoganda and fear shouldn't be played upon to increase numbers.

Nothing Godly about that.

Oh, and her grandfather was indeed a full bore racist at one time. No doubts about that.

Just an FYI, but I would have had issue probably with any children of mine spending a lot of time around Nation of Islam supporters at an young age. Just not the type of influence I'd want...

Seriously, it isn't an endorsement i'd allow officially in my campaign. it's possibly important strategically but Ethics are at play. I can't blanketly support something becuase the color of skin resembles mine.

Re: Farrakhan

Not sure theres much to deal with. I look a lot at history and the roots (formation) of things. Almost became a history major in shcool...

I don't think something that started based on fear, agreesiveness (not pure militancy), and percieved hatred can become a credible religon, cult, or spiritual following. Yes it was meant to unite us but I believe time and history has proved their approach wrong. I also think that if MLK hadn't succeeded in uniting his movement under non-violence that NOI might have caused more trouble for us as a people and a country then any help they gave the community during those years.

And regardless of whether folks agree with me or not I do see the Nation of Islam and how it began as a real threat to Martin Luther Kings dream in the 60's and now. People forget things over time.

Malcolm recognized the errors in the movement and the leaders but the nation didn't follow. Eventually they killed him and never acknowledged their errors.

MLK's dream at one point could have been usurped by a more agreesive NOI. I've got a problem there that won't go away in my lifetime.

no no. My kids (when they exist) won't be spending time with NOI kids outside of school or after school functions unless I'm personally supervising.

Re: Farrakhan

I'm not sure if the white dudes dad didnt want him hanging out with her because she was black or the element that surrounds her grandfather .

I worked with a lot of NOI guys for a while but that wouldnt stop me from hanging out with a sweetie like her . Haha

Re: Farrakhan

Element or race behind it. I wouldn't care once the kid was older. But kids and teenagers are easily influenced by whatever sounds right and appears correct in front of them. And Farrakhan was a great orator. But then so is David Duke. I'm not sold and...

I would have done the same. Unless I was supervising.

Re: Farrakhan

My mothers family is from Sudan so I know Orthodox Islam... being from NY I know all about the NOI and was heavily influenced by them at one time. They have very negative aspects but in their time they did some good as well. I wouldn't take away from what they did during the 60s. They played their role as did MLK. The difference is they were on two opposite sides of the spectrum. The NOI influenced and had alliances with a lot of influential Nubian people. Such as Noble Drew Ali, Shaikh Daoud Ahmed Faisal, the Moorish Science Temple... Not only that but within the communities that they were in they were responsible for getting rid of drugs and dealers, cleaning up the community, getting many Nubian men cleaned up and sober, teaching our people to respect and love each other and upliftment of the Nubian woman. Their message wasn't the same as MLK but they made an impact on our people. Their most notable impact was to value yourself and not take any sh!t from the white man. There's nothing wrong with that. The area of their doctrine that I don't agree with is calling the white man devil and the inaccuracies in historical accounts of the events that took place in the world. Like the Yaqoub story and the Tribe of Shabazz. Neither of those stories has any historical truth to them. I also find them to be hypocritical to call the white man devil but they were founded by a white man named Wallace Dodd Ford from Oregon. A fact which they deny. Even with all that I still acknowledge the positive impact they played on the history of our people. Negative people and corruption crept in and destroyed it form the inside in the 70s and that's what ultimately messed up things for them.

with all that said, I wouldn't keep my child from playing with another child because their grandfather was racist or because they were involved in a particular religion. I would take the time to get to know the child to find out what type of person and what moral character they had. Because we are all individuals and can think for ourselves and if that child proves to me to be a good person capable of thinking for themselves I wouldn't chastise them for what religion they belong to or what their family believes.

These will war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for he is Lord of Lords, and King of Kings...
